Charity of the YearDean's is proud of its roots in the community and we think its important to show our appreciation by supporting local charities. Every year our staff nominate a Charity of the Year and since 2002 to 2012 we have raised over £146,000 for a range of good causes. Since 1987 York Against Cancer has made a significant difference to the lives of people affected by cancer. In addition to funding the Cancer Care Centre at York Hospital, they have funded important research with The University of York and education projects involving the local community. Read more... 263 people die from cancer every week in Yorkshire. Yorkshire Cancer Research helps the people of Yorkshire avoid, survive and cope with cancer by funding world class research into its causes, diagnosis and treatment. Last year the charity spent more than £7m on cancer research, funding 200 internationally recognised scientists at the universities of Leeds, Sheffield, Hull, York and Bradford. Read more... Fundraising for 2013Throughout 2013, staff at Dean's Garden Centre will be partaking in various events and activities to raise funds for the nominated charities. Jane Tomlinson York 10k On Sunday 4th August 2013, 11 staff members from York will be taking on the challenge of the Jane Tomlinson York 10k to help raise funds for York Against Cancer.
