York's Secret Treasure On Monday 15th June in York's city centre, you may have spotted groups of puzzled and bemused people, buzzing around with clipboards, racing furiously up and down York's historic streets. No, they were not tourists, but in fact a group of around 80 of Dean's Garden Centre's staff and their families doing our annual Charity Treasure Hunt.
The big hunt started in St. Mary's car park where our intrepid explorers set off at timed intervals on a race to find the all important 'treasure'. With a total of 72 clues, some cryptic anagrams and rain clouds threatening, it wasn't going to be an easy task. However, our knowledgeable staff managed to make it to the final point where a freshly cooked meal and ice cold drinks awaited them, which was in definate need after some sprinting action was witnessed when several groups appeared all at once down the final straight in a bid to get their answers in first.
The winning group was picked on the total number of clues answered correctly, which in this instance came down to a tie between 2 groups, each getting 71 clues correct, however the winning team pipped the tying team to the post by just 1 minute, making the winning time of 1 hour and 37 minutes.
An enjoyable evening was had by all and were all glad the grey skies cleared and no rain dampened our spirits. A total of £552.00 was raised from entry fees and raffle, which will go to our charities of the year, SNAPPY, Age Concern and RNLI. |
